The Software-Engineering Group, also called Descartes Group, is headed by Prof. Dr. Samuel Kounev and focuses on the areas: software design, modeling and architecture-based analysis; systems benchmarking and experimental analysis; and autonomic and self-aware computing. Our research is inspired by the vision of Self-Aware Computing Systems, designed with built-in model learning and reasoning capabilities enabling autonomic and proactive decision making at run-time.
Our research is aimed at novel methods, techniques and tools for the engineering of dependable, secure and efficient computer-based systems, including classical software systems and cyber-physical systems.
Secure Software Systems is a new research group (established in 2018) headed by Prof. Dr. Alexandra Dmitrienko. It focuses on wide range of topics related to security of computing platforms and secure software engineering. In the era of ubiquitous digitization and emerging technology trends that are transforming traditional industrial and business models, the goal of the group is to identify new attack vectors against computing platforms in various application domains (e.g., mobile and cloud computing, embedded and distributed systems, Internet of Things and cyber-physical systems) and design countermeasures.
