André Bauer from the Chair of Software Engineering was honored with the Gemeinsamer Promotionspreis der Unterfränkischen Gedenkjahrstiftung für Wissenschaft und der Universität Würzburg.

André Bauer was honored with the Gemeinsamer Promotionspreis der Unterfränkischen Gedenkjahrstiftung für Wissenschaft und der Universität Würzburg for his dissertation “Automated Hybrid Time Series Forecasting: Design, Benchmarking, and Use Cases”. He was supervised by Prof. Dr. Samuel Kounev. In the honored thesis, André Bauer proposes (i) a method for automatically provisioning and scaling elastic resources for cloud systems, (ii) a benchmark for automatically evaluating and ranking of time series forecasting methods, and (iii) a hybrid forecasting method.

The "Unterfränkische Gedenkjahrstiftung für Wissenschaft," chaired by District President Dr. Eugen Ehmann, was established in 1964 on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Lower Franconia's affiliation with Bavaria. The foundation awards annual prizes for outstanding scientific achievements in the fields of the humanities, natural sciences and medicine that come from Lower Franconia and serve the reputation of Lower Franconia and that have a special relationship to Lower Franconia in terms of subject matter or author. The award requires that the dissertation has received the predicate "summa cum laude". In addition, the dissertation must deal with a subject that concerns Lower Franconia or is of particular importance for Lower Franconia, or the author must have spent a significant part of his or her life in Lower Franconia.
