The interdisciplinary research project "Wunderkint: Segmentierung und Verlaufskontrolle chronischer WUNDEn duRch Künstliche INTelligenz" at the Chair of Software Engineeringwas awarded the special research award "Medicine 2022" of the Vogel Foundation Dr. Eckernkamp at the annual concert of Universitätsbund Würzburg e.V.

The interdisciplinary research project "Wunderkint: Segmentierung und Verlaufskontrolle chronischer WUNDEn duRch Künstliche INTelligenz" was awarded the special research award "Medicine 2022" of the Vogel Foundation Dr. Eckernkamp, which is endowed with 25,000€, at the annual concert of Universitätsbund Würzburg e.V. on November 16, 2022 in the Neubaukirche in Würzburg. The award ceremony was framed by the University's Academic Orchestra; nine prizes and awards with a total funding amount of 173,000€ were presented to honor outstanding projects and researchers.

The project is carried out by the Chair of Software Engineering in cooperation with the Department of Dermatology at the University Hospital since October 2021. On the medical side, the project is led by Prof. Dr. med. Astrid Schmieder and Dr. med. Tassilo Dege. From the Chair of Software Engineering the project is led by Vanessa Borst under the supervision of Prof. Samuel Kounev. Within the scope of their project, an AI-supported software application for chronic wound patients is being developed to support patient care, improve therapy success, and reduce therapy costs in the long term.
