The interdisciplinary research project "ROOT: Real-time earth Observation of fOrest dynamics and biodiversiTyat the Chair of Software Engineering, with Prof. Samuel Kounev as spokesperson, aims at the development of a geo-information portal based on satellite data for the whole of Bavaria, providing up-to-date information on forest condition, stand losses as well as their consequences for biodiversity, climate protection and forestry. Besides the Chair of Software Engineering, also the professor for earth observation Prof. Dr. habil. Claudia Künzer and the professor for biodiversity Prof. Dr. Jörg Müller are involved with their teams.

ROOT will be funded starting from 2023 by the Bavarian Research Institute for Digital Transformation (bidt) as one of four interdisciplinary research projects investigating the interplay between digital transformation, the environment and sustainability.
