ROOT: Real-time earth Observation of fOrest dynamics and biodiversiTy

01.04.2023

During the project, a geoinformation product that, based on satellite data covering all of Bavaria, provides up-to-date information on canopy cover loss areas and possible disturbance drivers like wind, snow, fire, insect infestation and so on.

Description:

ROOT was an interdisciplinary research project funded by the bidt of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
During the project, a geoinformation product that, based on satellite data covering all of Bavaria, provides up-to-date information on canopy cover loss areas and possible disturbance drivers like wind, snow, fire, insect infestation and so on.  The Software Engineering subproject developed both a mobile and a web application—the “ROOT Forest Monitor”—which makes results from the Earth Observation and Biodiversity subprojects interactively accessible.
