New DFG Emmy Noether Research Group Descartes

13.07.2009

A new Independent Junior Research Group headed by Dr.-Ing. Samuel Kounev is established starting July 15 at the Chair for Software Design and Quality.

The group which includes three full-time researchers and two student assistants is funded by the German Research Foundation within the Emmy Noether Programme for a period of five years. Current members of the group include Dipl.-Inf. Fabian Brosig, Dipl.-Inf. Nikolaus Huber, and Ana Aleksieva. The new research group will work on a long-term fundamental research project named after the French philosopher René Descartes. The project aims to develop a set of novel methods and techniques for building next generation autonomic and self-aware enterprise systems. The latter will be aware of their own performance and will automatically adapt as the environment evolves ensuring that system resources are utilized efficiently and performance requirements are continuously satisfied. The project will provide the means to realize this vision using online performance models generated dynamically from the evolving system configuration and exploiting these models for autonomic performance and resource management. Further information on the new research group and project will be made available soon at httр://descartes.ipd.uka.de.
