The goal of this collaboration is to identify, study, and model risk factors for cardiac and kidney disease or injury that may occur after cardiac surgery. For instance, patients showing a cardiac surgery-associated acute kidney injury (CSA-AKI) exhibit typically three to four times higher all-cause mortality and higher rates of major adverse kidney events, namely death, dialysis, or persistent renal dysfunction. To this end, both statistical anlysis and methods from deep/machine learning are applied to gain more insights into this medical topic.
